The BCCI had been having a cool time up till now. While cricketers and some ex- cricketers sweated it out, having to face all the maligning allegations of being match fixers, and then supposed accumulators of astronomical accounts of illegal wealth, a most BCCI officials just sat back and smiled. Well, tables have turned, or lets say the Income tax guys have just gotten smarter.

Recently BCCI treasurer Kishore Rungta’s fixed deposit documents worth Rs. 98 crore was seized from, well… his ‘office’ (ahem!). We’ve got to give him the credit of being at least original ! BCCI president A.C Muthiah even went on to defend Rungta, saying that, “It is the board’s money kept in the board treasurer’s office. It’s transparent.” Yeah, the whole story is pretty transparent too !

Why, pray bestow the treasurer with such treasures ? The BCCI president has an answer to that one too- you see, the BCCI office in Mumbai is mighty small. So, it had been the system that the Board’s treasurer shall be granted riches- oops! I mean the treasurer gets to keep the board’s financial documents at his residence. Who wants to be Tendulkar any more – the latest hot job is going to be a cherished dream of wanting to become the BCCI treasurer !

However, we do not intend to join the accusation brigade. Probably just building on to a rather amusing probability. Maybe, maybe not, could be, could not be.
