Australia v New Zealand at
Melbourne, World Series Cup, 1985/86
He was appointed captain of the Australian Test team on February 12,
1999. A match-winner one-day all-rounder in the late eighties, Steve Waugh is perhaps the
world's most dependable Test batsman in the late nineties. His vicious batting is the key
to his success throughout the nineties, scoring big hundreds when Australia has
needed them the most. He took over the captaincy of the Australian one-day team in 1997-98
and then of the Test team upon Mark Taylor's retirement in early 1999 and was in command
when Australia won its second World Cup later that year. With twin Mark, they have formed
the most extraordinary brotherly team in the history of International cricket.
