Test Debut :
England v West Indies at Leeds, 1st Test,
1991
Although successful at the highest level, Hick has rarely dominated the opposition
in the manner that characterizes his county appearances. At his best, he is an attacking
bat with a wise range of strokes. At his worst, vulnerable against fast bowling and
lacking confidence. A superb slip fielder and a good off-spinner, often bowling and taking
wickets at all levels of Cricket. In 1998 he joined the hallowed ranks of those who have
scored 100 centuries. Only Wally Hammond reached this mark at a younger age and only
Bradman & Compton took fewer innings.
